The Zelkova Quartet have many RNCM awards under their belt and have recently been made associates of the European Chamber Music Academy. They were one of four quartets selected internationally to participate in the Trondheim International String Quartet Academy 2012 and attended the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme in September 2013.

Steffan Morris has some trial dates with a London orchestra which he is unable to reschedule so the Zelkova Quartet have proposed a young upcoming cellist, Abel Selaocoe from RNCM, as a substitute for the Schubert Quintet. 4uartet is a new vocal ensemble of graduates from the Alexander Gibson Opera School of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama). Their Patron is Malcolm Martineau. Drawing on years of conservatoire training they explore a range of music and look for new ways of presenting the vocal repertoire.

Their programme, from an extensive repertoire, will include Soave sia il Vento from Così Fan Tutte.

Marc Verter is one of the most exciting and versatile collaborative pianists of his generation and dedicates much of his time to performing with singers.

Elizabeth Watts, Lieder prize winner at Cardiff Singer of the World in 2007, was described as ‘one of the most beautiful voices Britain has produced in a generation’ by International Record Review. Elizabeth has given recitals at the UK’s leading venues including London’s Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall and at the Aldeburgh and Cheltenham Festivals. Educated at King’s, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, Simon is professor of piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is an official accompanist for BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Their programme, also to be performed at the WigmoreHall, includes music by Strauss, Duparc and Britten, as well as Spanish composers: Granados, Guastavino, Rodrigo and Obradors.

After being awarded a full scholarship to Wells Cathedral School, Anna has developed a career as a soloist and chamber musician. She is now much in demand internationally, performing in prestigious London venues and taking part in music festivals from Cheltenham to China. On this occasion Anna is teaming up with Tom Poster, a founder member of the Aronowitz Ensemble, who is widely recognised as a pianist of outstanding artistry and versatility, both as soloist and chamber musician across an extensive repertoire.

Melvyn Tan, our Honorary President, needs no introduction to Milverton where he has wowed our audiences on many occasions. He has been described as ‘among the most thoughtful, elegant and refined of pianists.’ We are particularly delighted to welcome him back after an extensive tour of Hong Kong and Singapore. As well as his visit to Somerset, his other forthcoming performance
highlights include recitals at the Wigmore Hall on the fortepiano and piano. He is also planning a series of performances of Beethoven’s cello sonatas with Guy Johnston and a special appearance at a Chopin Festival in Majorca at the end of September.

Brahms Horn Trio

Sam Haywood, Arisa Fujita and Richard Bayliss, all outstanding chamber musicians, came together in 2008 to play this seminal work by Brahms, described as ‘the most substantial piece of chamber music written for horn in the nineteenth century.’

Each member of the trio is a soloist in their own right. Sam, a pianist of international reputation, is frequently the duo partner of both Steven Isserlis and Joshua Bell. Arisa is a member of the renowned Fujita Trio.

Richard is a founder member of the Galliard Ensemble Wind Quintet.

Our Young Musicians' Concert

Our Young Musicians' Concert

A welcome return to our highly successful Young Musicians’ concert at the earlier time of 7.30pm.

The programme in St Michael’s church will feature violinist Julia Hwang who was a finalist in the string section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2012. She is currently at school in Bristol and will be joined by finalists from the Taunton Young Musicians’ 2012 final including tenor Oliver Kelham and pianist Weng Soon Tee who was the winner of the competition.

The first 15 minutes of the concert will feature some young local musicians including Nat Jenkins from Milverton Stores and a short performance by the Blue Weasels singers with one or two little surprises.

In addition to giving the young performers concert experience, the programme will show the high standards of musicianship the next generation are achieving.

British pianist Ivana Gavrić was named Newcomer of the Year 2011 by BBC Music Magazine following her Wigmore Hall début and will be releasing her third album in 2013. Performance venues in the UK have included the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall and she has given recitals throughout Europe, in Russia and Japan.

Cancellation of Concert scheduled for Friday 15th February

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the concert by the Cappa String Trio which was to have taken place on Friday 15th February, has had to be cancelled. Anyone who has already purchased tickets via Ticketsource will be receiving notification and reimbursement direct from Ticketsource.

The Cappa String Trio has already enjoyed considerable success, including winning Music Network’s Young Musicians’ Award in 2009. They have toured extensively in Australasia and Japan and will be touring in the USA in March 2013.

The Trio, all exquisitely sensitive players, will be joined by three singers to perform Arvo Pärt’s Stabat Mater in the second part of the concert.
